Fat Cat Grill & Bar

Great food and drinks in a casual upscale atmosphere

Dining Review

"It was a revelation walking into the Fat Cat Grill & Bar on West Main Street, one of the newer restaurants in town. Most of what once housed a Blockbuster video store has been transformed into an attractive bar and spacious restaurant. There’s even a new, covered patio outside.

Perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised. Owner Stephan Nousiopoulos is the son of the founder of the original Olympic Pizza restaurant, and has his own architectural design firm.

Food service has been part of the family tradition since Nousiopoulos’ father, Ilias, bought a small grinder shop across the street and transformed it into Olympic Pizza more than 40 years ago. Later, the restaurant expanded with the building of the West Side Complex. The family sold the operation in 2001, but the call of the restaurant business must have been too strong, and they are back."

"I've eaten here many times and have never had a bad meal. I particularly like the harvest salad, which is a large portion and delicious and healthy lunch. The paninis are great, my favorite is the steak and portabello one, def recommend the sweet potato fries!"

"This restaurant had friendly and knowledgeable staff. We were informed of the specials and tasty deserts. New and tastfully bright atmosphere was welcoming. We stayed late to talk over coffee. All four of in our party ate until we were full. Great food."

"Tasty Fresh. When looking for a local place to eat last minute - I often choose Fat Cat for their fresh food. FC is one of the few non-chain restaurants in Norwich with food that isn't microwaved. The kitchen is somewhat in view of diners, which is always nice in my opinion. The bar is at the front of the restaurant, with the dining areas behind and outside on a patio - plenty of room for a small group/big family. The menu offers great options, but can be pricey if ordering apps, soup or anything other than just a meal. I don't feel $5 apps are unachievable in any setting; they are apps not meals. I've seen many a good chef/food manager offer these accordingly. A few of my favorites are the panninis, salad, nachos and soups (try the lemon chicken). The wait staff was very nice and came back to check on us during the meal. And who doesn't like cats? The décor will make you purrrrrr."
